Abstract: De Sade si trova in un manicomio dove allestisce la tragedia di Marat. Spiega al pubblico che egli era costretto, a causa di un malattia della pelle, a restare immerso nell'acqua del bagno e da lì dirigeva i moti rivoluzionari. Carlotta Corday riuscì a farsi ricevere e ad ucciderlo. La rappresentazione è finita: i pazzi, eccitati dal racconto, si ribellano e picchiano i presenti.
