Abstract: Protagonisti sono il gangster Martin Rome che uccide un poliziotto in uno scontro a fuoco, un avvocato disonesto che gli ha rifiutato il denaro necessario per la fuga in Sudamerica e il tenente Candella che gli dą la caccia, cercando anche di recuperare alcuni gioielli rubati. Entrambi sono conosciuti nel quartiere di Little Italy. La vicenda termina in un chiesa con un epilogo drammatico.
