Abstract: Situata nel nord-est dell'India, Shillong č considerata dal molti la capitale della musica rock del paese. Č la cittā natale di Lou Majaw, hippie di 62 anni e ambasciatore regionale del rock che, ogni anno, tiene un concerto per celebrare il compleanno (24 maggio) di Bob Dylan. In questa piccola cittā al confine tra la Birmania e il Bangladesh, Lou si esibisce con la sua band "Ace of Spades" ovunque, dalle grandi sale da concerto ai piccoli pub, per gli irriducibili fan di Dylan come per gli adolescenti locali della St. Mary School, iniziandoli al mondo del rock and roll. Ma organizza anche un concerto ogni mese a Nuova Delhi. Combinando abilmente le riflessioni di Majaw sulla musica, la poesia rock e l'India di oggi con le immagini dinamiche delle varie esibizioni, il regista Ranjan Palit evoca lo spirito della sua stessa generazione, dell'India contemporanea e delle sue molteplici facciate. Il regista, conosciuto nel mondo del documentario soprattutto come un brillante cameraman, sottolinea: "Kolkata, la mia cittā natale, ha sempre avuto un legame molto forte con la musica rock degli anni '60 e '70. Di recente, c'č stato un revival molto forte anche in altre parti del paese".
Located in Northeast India, Shillong is widely regarded as the country's capital of rock music. It is the hometown of Lou Majaw, a 62-year-old hippie and regional rock ambassador who gives a concert each year to celebrate Bob Dylan's birthday (May 24th) . In this small city on the border between Burma and Bangladesh, Lou performs with his band, the "Ace of Spades" everywhere and for everybody: from big concert halls to small pubs; for die-hard Dylan fans as well as the local teenagers at the St. Mary School, initiating them into the world of rock and roll. But he also puts on a concert each month in New Delhi. Skilfully combining Majaw's thoughts on music, rock poetry and today's India with the dynamic images of various performances, director Ranjan Palit evokes the spirit of his own generation, of contemporary India and its many facades. The director, known in the documentary world mostly as a brilliant cameraman, points out: "My hometown Kolkata has always had a very strong connection with rock music of the 1960s and 1970s. Of late, there has been a very strong revival in other parts of the country as well".
