Abstract: Nel 1989, il noto scrittore e critico d’arte Giovanni Testori presentava al mondo delle gallerie milanesi l’artista Sergio Battarola, uno sconosciuto e squattrinato pittore scoperto qualche anno prima nella bassa bergamasca. L’artista, che fino ad allora non aveva avuto neppure un acquirente, di punto in bianco veniva adottato dalla firma più autorevole del momento, che per di più aveva acquistato in blocco più di cento dei suoi disegni, pagato il catalogo e organizzato la sua prima personale. Le aspettative di Sergio erano quelle di ogni esordio felice. Ma, a vent’anni di distanza, non è andata proprio così…
In 1989, the well-known writer and art critic Giovanni Testori introduced to the world of Milanese galleries the artist Sergio Battarola, an unknown and penniless painter discovered a few years earlier in the lower Bergamo area. The artist, who until then had not had a single buyer, suddenly found himself adopted by the most authoritative firm of the moment, which had bought more than a hundred of his drawings en bloc, paid for the catalogue and organised his first personal exhibition. Sergio's expectations were those of any happy debut. But, twenty years on, it hasn't quite worked out that way...
