Abstract: Nelle giungle del Borneo, un padre Iban ormai anziano intraprende un viaggio sul fiume per cercare aiuto per il figlio malato. Turbati da visioni ricorrenti e inquietanti, che nascono dal bizzarro mondo delle foreste pluviali, padre e figlio sono trascinati in un ultimo "incontro" nel profondo della giungla. "Semangat"è stato realizzato lavorando a stretto contatto con una comunità Iban di Sarawak, in Malesia, con i quali è stata ideata la storia. Il film esplora il conflitto che esiste tra le antiche credenze animiste e i moderni approcci alla malattia. I protagonisti principali del film sono un padre e un figlio reali e uno sciamano in pensione appartenente alla comunità.
In the jungles of Borneo, an elderly Iban father embarks on a river journey to seek help for his ailing son. Troubled by recurring and disturbing visions from the bizarre world of the rainforests, father and son are drawn into a final 'encounter' deep in the jungle. "Semangat" was made by working closely with an Iban community in Sarawak, Malaysia, with whom the story was conceived. The film explores the conflict that exists between ancient animist beliefs and modern approaches to illness. The main protagonists of the film are a real father and son and a retired shaman from the community.
