Abstract: All'inizio degli anni '90, l'Agrochimica Monsanto introduce sul mercato piante geneticamente modificate con slogan che parlano di rivoluzione agricola e di soluzione ai problemi alimentari del pianeta. Altri vedono queste piante come una minaccia irrevocabile alla bio-diversità. Árpád Pusztai e Ignacio Chapela sono scienziati illustri che hanno scelto di studiare il fenomeno dell'ingegneria genetica. Entrambi hanno fatto importanti scoperte. Le ricerche da loro condotte dimostrano che il 95% della ricerca nel campo dell'ingegneria genetica è pagata dall'industria. Solo il 5% della ricerca è indipendente. Il grande pericolo per la libertà della scienza e per la stessa democrazia è evidente.
In the early 1990s, Monsanto Agrochemicals introduced genetically modified plants onto the market with slogans that spoke of an agricultural revolution and a solution to the planet's food problems. Others see these plants as an irrevocable threat to bio-diversity. Árpád Pusztai and Ignacio Chapela are distinguished scientists who have chosen to study the phenomenon of genetic engineering. Both have made important discoveries. Their research shows that 95% of research in the field of genetic engineering is paid for by industry. Only 5% of research is independent. The great danger to the freedom of science and to democracy itself is obvious.
