Abstract: L’Isonzo č stato da sempre un fiume di confine. Il suo corso relativamente breve collega due mondi diversi: le Alpi e il Mediterraneo. Non a caso il fiume sembra avere due personalitŕ, riflesse dai suoi due nomi: Soča, nome femminile, e Isonzo, nome maschile. Č un fiume ricco di contraddizioni, molto attraente, ma altrettanto pericoloso, famoso per il colore smeraldo ma anche per le battaglie sanguinose. La Prima guerra mondiale non ha distrutto solo la vita, i villaggi e i campi, ma anche il rapporto che l’uomo aveva con la natura. Di chi č oggi l’Isonzo? La Slovenia lo ruba all’Italia con le dighe, l’Italia ne spreca le acque con un’irrigazione smodata. Le imprese edili ne saccheggiano la ghiaia e l’industria ne inquina le acque con le discariche.
The Soča river has always been a border river. Its relatively short course connects two different worlds: the Alps and the Mediterranean. It is no coincidence that the river seems to have two personalities, reflected in its two names: Soča, the feminine name, and Isonzo, the masculine name. It is a river full of contradictions, very attractive but equally dangerous, famous for its emerald colour but also for bloody battles. The First World War not only destroyed life, villages and fields, but also man's relationship with nature. Whose Isonzo is it today? Slovenia steals it from Italy with dams, Italy wastes its water with inordinate irrigation. Construction companies plunder its gravel and industry pollutes its waters with landfills.
