Abstract: Gloria della lotta libera della Georgia, giunto ad un’età in cui i ricordi iniziano a pesare, Ramin intraprende un viaggio che si svolge tanto nello spazio del suo paese quanto nel tempo della sua esistenza. Tra sere trascorse con un inseparabile gatto e incontri con giovani lottatori, nel commovente tributo sulla tomba della madre o negli interminabili brindisi con gli amici, emerge il ritratto di un uomo che oltre alla sua immagine di eroe nazionale "dalla presa di ferro" dispone di un animo sensibile. "Quando ho incontrato Ramin per la prima volta, la sua stretta da wrestler mi ha quasi spezzato una mano. Quando ho ascoltato la storia della ragazza di cui si era innamorato cinquant’anni fa, mi si è spezzato il cuore" (A. Stonys). Fedele al suo stile dove lo sguardo sul reale è filtrato da una precisa coscienza linguistica, Stonys ci consegna un altro affascinante "monologo interiore". "Ramin"è un racconto dove le prospettive si intersecano, dove descrizione ed evocazione finiscono per fare tutt’uno. Mescolando presa diretta e recupero di archivi del passato, rompendo il flusso lineare delle immagini, Stonys realizza un’opera in cui – come accade in tutto il grande cinema – il viaggio verso il futuro e il ripiegamento sul passato si sovrappongono.
Ramin, a former wrestling legend from Georgia, has now reached an age at which he begins to feel the burden of memory. He embarks on a journey through space – across his homeland – and time – the time of his life. The pictures of the evenings spent with an inseparable cat, of the meetings with young wrestlers, of the moving tribute to his mother’s grave, and of the endless toasts with friends portray a man who, besides his image as a national hero “with an iron grip”, also has a sensitive mind. “When I met Ramin for the first time, his wrestler’s handshake nearly broke my hand. When I heard his story about the girl he loved 50 years ago, it broke my heart.” (A. Stonys) Always faithful to his style, in which the observation of reality is filtered by a precise linguistic consciousness, Stonys produces another fascinating “internal monologue”. Ramin is a story in which different points of view intersect and description and evocation end up being one and the same. Mixing field recording and archive material, breaking the linear flow of pictures, Stonys makes a film in which – as happens in great Cinema – the journey to the future and retreat into the past overlap each other.
